Weybridge, Surrey...BAE Systems Regional Aircraft has won new contracts from other BAE Systems business units for its Spares Shipping Service, based at the Spares Logistics Centre (SLC) in Weybridge, Surrey.
This service was established at the SLC in 1998 in order to meet customer airline demands for a complete spares delivery support package from placement of order to arrival at any destination worldwide. Currently some 30 of the top Regional Aircraft customers have signed up to this ‘one-stop shop’ logistics service to meet all their spares shipping needs.
The expertise offered by the SLC is being marketed to other parts of BAE Systems who are attracted by the specialist service offered and the considerable overall cost savings that result.
New contracts and contract renewals won already this year include:
- Shipping of spares on behalf of BAE Systems Military Air Solutions (MAS) to support Nimrod MRA4 natural icing trials in the USA in the coming few weeks. This contract follows a highly successful role played by the SLC in the Nimrod MRA4 deployment during September-November 2006 to the McKinley Climatic Laboratory in Florida. MAS said of the SLC performance for that exercise that ‘the advance supply, re-supply of equipment and overall management of logistics was one of the best seen in over 19 years of development trials experience’;
- Shipping of spares during 2008 on behalf of GCAT Flight Academy for the Woodford, Manchester simulator centre;
- Renewal of contract for 2008 from BAE Systems Land Systems for logistics support to the M777 lightweight 155mm howitzer for the US Army and Marine Corps.
The SLC has freight forwarding agreements with over 80 carriers, resulting in substantial cost savings on standard rates published in The Air Cargo Tariff. It also offers a much faster service, particularly between the USA and Europe. It has a three-times weekly consolidation consignment between London and New York meaning that deliveries can be made within three days, much faster than external freight forwarders’ customers can expect.
Typical services offered under the Spares Shipping Service include AirWay Bill and flight details within 15 minutes of the part being ready for despatch; competitive consolidation rates; pre-paid export service worldwide; order tracking; pre-alerts at Customs; collection of purchases from other suppliers and vendors for consolidation with BAE Systems orders; 24-hour in house courier service; on-site facilities for all major Integrators and X-Ray facilities on site to reduce transit times through airport security.
