BAE Systems Regional Aircraft has signed a major lease deal with German carrier Eurowings Luftverkehrs AG under which an additional six BAe 146-300s are being added to the airline’s existing fleet of eight BAe 146s.

Eurowings has successfully operated BAe 146 passenger jets for over ten years on a range of international and domestic routes. This fleet expansion means that the BAe 146 continues to be Eurowings' '100-seat'jet of choice. Eurowings is part of the Lufthansa Regional brand concept.

The six aircraft (E3123, E3125, E3158, E3162, E3165 and E3203) will be delivered over a period from mid-April through the summer months to the beginning of September.

Eurowings has expanded steadily to the point where today it flies over 30 regional aircraft to 32 destinations in 10 countries across Europe. In 2003 it carried 5.3 million passengers at a passenger load factor of 68.98%. The newly-introduced BAe 146-300s will replace some of the smaller 48-seat ATR 42-500 turboprops to provide a much-needed capacity increase.

Peter Kranich, Senior Vice President Accountable Manager for Eurowings said today: " We are delighted to be able to extend greater passenger comfort to more routes with the acquisition of these six extra aircraft. The BAe 146 has proven to be reliable and economic whilst our passengers love the wide, comfortable cabin."
